We have been serving wonderful French Country Cuisine, prepared by Chef Gene in our intimate café for the past twenty-three years. As we began to think about retirement we realized the desire for gallery space had to be met. Therefore the Saturday Evening Dinner/Art Showing was born. The evolution into becoming an art filled café has been filled with the excitement of offering delicious food, beautiful artwork, making many friends and developing a following of art collectors who eagerly await the showing of the next painting.
Our gallery café is located in a beautiful little river town, Momence, IL, fifty miles south of Chicago, and has been a country-drive destination for people who come from all over, especially the Chicago area. Gene is a self-taught chef and I am a self- taught artist. Our son, Matt, bakes the French bread fresh every Saturday morning and is also our maitre d. He is our right hand man and has been an invaluable asset to the business.
Gene's specialty is French Country Cuisine, calling upon our French Canadian heritage; he personally prepares all of the food, including a selection of four different entrees each Saturday. A typical appetizer might be a crabmeat soufflé with red pepper coulis. One of his most enjoyed entrees is his roast leg of lamb with a green peppercorn sauce, served with his potatoes Provencal. His signature dessert is the bread pudding with Southern Comfort Sauce. Over the years he has been awarded a 27 out of 30 points from the Zagat Guide and four forks from the Chicago Tribune.
You may choose to compliment your dinner with an aperitif, a cocktail, a selection from our wine list or a French Beer. Please call for more information about the menu or to make a reservation. We would love to meet you. If you are traveling and would like to stay at a lovely bed and breakfast right here in Momence please call us for the number of Wikstrom Manor.
